A 60-day voyage around the Australian Coast was terminated days after the tragic passing of an elderly woman who was stranded by the vessel on a distant island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on Lizard Island with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but separated from the excursion for a rest. The liner departed without her and came back several hours later after the crew realised the passenger was missing.

An extensive rescue mission discovered her remains the subsequent day.

Authorities are investigating the event, in coordination with investigators and the medical examiner.

Head of the shipping company said that guests and staff on the ship were informed that the continuation of the cruise had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior engine troubles".

Through an announcement, he further stated that guests would be issued a total repayment, and said the company was working "to arrange the return journeys of the travelers via private aircraft".

Officials also released an revised announcement, and said they had "issued a order to the Captain" prohibiting any additional guests from entering the liner.

The spokesperson said that they would attend the ship in the Australian city upon its return.

The ship first departed Cairns on October 24th, and was merely two days into the journey at the time of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the journey.

The child of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and grieved that the liner left the location after an scheduled outing without my mum".

Through her comments, she described her mum as an "vigorous 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

She further stated that she wished the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have preserved Mum's life".
