Lando Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
Lando Norris has outperformed his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who took the points lead from Piastri by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver during the running before sprint qualifying due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the championship fight, trailing with a 36-point deficit Norris, ended up in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a slight brush of the fence.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, one place behind teammate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
